Florida Academic Building Wins AIA Merit Award

Florida Gulf Coast University will use the facility to study environmental sustainability & renewable energy

Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) and Leo A Daly were honored with the Award of Merit for Unbuilt Commercial or Institutional Work by the Palm Beach Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The Emergent Technologies Institute is the first building designed at FGCU’s new 6.5-acre campus located within a new 240-acre research park. The new developer-driven research park will focus on environmental sustainability.

The research park will study sustainable energy through weather stations, solar technologies, improving farming applications and energy storage. 

The Emergent Technologies Institute, the fifth Leo A Daly project for Florida Gulf Coast University, will include teaching and research laboratories, outdoor research and development fields, pilot-scale testing facilities, technology demonstration areas and power islanding. The $7.5 million project will add classroom space for FGCU students.
