EPA Approves Water Filtration Media Device
Abtech Holdings, Inc, a full-service environmental technologies and engineering firm has received notice from the EPA that the conditional registration for its Smart Sponge Plus products is no longer subject to a time limitation.
Smart Sponge Plus is a patented enhancement to the capabilities of AbTech's Smart Sponge filtration media for which 17 patents have been issued in the U.S. and 16 internationally. With the addition of an antimicrobial coating layer, Smart Sponge is able to significantly reduce coliform bacteria in storm water, industrial wastewater and municipal wastewater by causing a biostatic rupture of the bacteria's cell wall as the contaminant comes in contact with Smart Sponge Plus.
As described in the EPA registration #86256-1, the filtration device is designed to assist water systems in meeting Total Maximum Daily Load Limits (TMDL's) for coliform bacteria for outdoor use.
