May 15, 2013

Liberty Utilities has selected Schneider Electric to provide customized weather forecasts for its natural gas operations across the U.S. as well as severe weather alerts for its electric and storm restoration operations in the northeastern U.S. Schneider Electric will provide weather information to improve service for Liberty Utilities’ more than 350,000 customers.

Ninety percent of load forecasting errors in the industry are attributed to inaccurate weather predictions. Schneider Electric’s temperature and precipitation estimates, ranked number one in the industry for the sixth year in a row, will further strengthen Liberty Utilities’ load forecasting accuracy, as well as support emergency preparedness operations. Temperature, dew point and wind speed data, along with real-time lightning forecasts, will help ensure more accurate load forecasting and better buy/shed load decisions, thereby delivering more reliable and efficient power to customers across the service area. Schneider Electric’s comprehensive, graphical display of this data will support more informed business decisions for overall smart grid management and assist with proactive responses to severe weather that ultimately shorten outage times.
