In the face of a changing regulatory environment, a changing climate and changing public attitudes toward sustainable water management, stormwater technologies and techniques must continually evolve. What’s good enough today will not be good enough for the next fifty years.
Continuous monitoring and adaptive control (CMAC), however, is a significant step forward in that evolution. Incorporating digital sensors and actuators into stormwater assets so that they respond in real time to current and anticipated conditions, it turns them from passive assets into active, smart infrastructure that operates autonomously to meet multiple stormwater objectives. Enabling them to operate more effectively and efficiently today, it also provides essential performance headroom to accommodate increased future demands. In addition, by digitally connecting multiple of these assets, stormwater managers can create a smart network that manages water intelligently at the catchment or watershed level.
