Publisher’s Memo: A Note of Thanks—Let’s Keep It Going
About 23,000 people around the world subscribe to Erosion Control. Since the magazine’s launch in 1993, we have had an agreement with the International Erosion Control Association (IECA), serving as its official journal. This arrangement has consistently put the Association in front of tens of thousands of non-IECA members—people (like you) actively practicing in the field of erosion and sediment control who were ideal candidates to become IECA members, attend its tradeshows, or participate with the Association in one manner or another. It gave IECA free exposure to a much larger audience, without the expense of publishing and distributing its own newsletter or magazine.
But times change. It’s no secret that over the past decades we’ve seen a dramatic evolution in the technology and economics of magazine publishing and information delivery, and there have been a number of recent changes at the IECA as well. The agreement no longer makes the sound business sense for IECA and for Forester Media that it did in the past. So we have agreed to part ways.
What does this mean for our readers? Most of you will see no change whatsoever in your subscription. From the beginning, IECA’s membership has constituted a small portion of our overall readership, and today members comprise just over 8% of our overall subscriber base. If you are an IECA member and have not already subscribed directly, you’ll need to do so (it’s free) to continue receiving each issue, because you will no longer receive Erosion Control automatically as a benefit of your IECA membership. If you’d like to continue receiving a complimentary subscription to Erosion Control (and we hope you do!), please just take a moment to click here, select “Renew,” and enter your ID number from the mailing label (your e-mail will work, too). If you no longer wish to receive Erosion Control, no action is needed on your part.
Again, if you are not an IECA member, you need take no action at all. You’ll continue to receive each issue as you do now.
Our commitment to our readers, advertisers, and overall health of the industry remains undiminished. We intend to continue to exhibit at the IECA annual conference and other industry gatherings, and will remain as active as ever. The pages in each issue of Erosion Control that had been dedicated to IECA’s content will now be filled with other articles and stories that will be of interest and value to our readers. We’re excited about this opportunity to expand our editorial offerings and welcome your contributions.
For those of you who are IECA members, we hope you’ll want to continue receiving Erosion Control. We don’t want to lose you as a reader, and we highly value your input, suggestions, and guidance. I am grateful that Erosion Control is a part of your professional life, grateful for the opportunity to serve our important industry, and for the many great years of contributing to and participating with the IECA.
