Water Environment Research Foundation Welcomes New Board Members

The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) elected four new members to its Board of Directors. The new board members are Jim Matheson, Flagship Ventures; Julia Hunt, P.E., Trinity River Authority; Scott Dyer, Ph.D., Procter & Gamble; and Glen Daigger, Ph.D., CH2M HILL.

Julia Hunt, P.E. currently serves as assistant regional manager for the Trinity River Authority of Texas following a 28-year career with the city of Arlington, Texas, where she served as director of utilities. She brings a unique perspective to WERF that comes from managing regional wastewater and water treatment facilities and active involvement with both regional and national water organizations. Hunt earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, graduating cum laude, from Texas A&M University.

Jim Matheson is the president and CEO of Oasys Water Inc. He brings more than 20 years of technology and leadership experience across a variety of organizations and roles including designing, engineering and deploying innovative technology platforms. Matheson also served as a partner at Flagship Ventures where he started several new ventures. His background will provide WERF with insight on bringing new technologies to market. Matheson earned an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science (with Honors) from the U.S. Naval Academy. He retired in 2008 as a commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Scott Dyer, Ph.D., is presently a principal scientist at Procter & Gamble in the Environmental Stewardship Organization as an eco-toxicologist. Dyer has been involved with WERF for more than 10 years, primarily in the Multiple Stressors and Trace Organics Programs. Additionally, his experience with U.S. and European trade associations and the Cincinnati technology cluster will be a great asset to the WERF board. Dyer obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Iowa State University in biology and toxicology. His Ph.D. was awarded from the University of North Texas.

Glen Daigger, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE, NAE is a senior vice president with CH2M HILL. He serves as chief wastewater process engineer and is responsible for wastewater process engineering on both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment projects on a firm-wide basis. He is the first technical fellow for the firm, an honor that recognizes the leadership that he provides for CH2M HILL and for the profession in the development and implementation of new wastewater treatment technology. Daigger is currently the Intl. Water Assn. president and chairman and former WERF Research Council chair. He holds a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, a Master of Science in civil engineering and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Purdue University.
