Hi,

If the headshot on this page doesn’t look familiar, you’d be correct. A lot of you don’t know me yet, so let me introduce myself. My name is Katie Johns, and I am the new managing editor of Storm Water Solutions. I joined the team in early September and am loving it so far.

Before this position, I was with another business media company, and before that, I spent three years as a local reporter and editor in Florida – in Sarasota and on Longboat Key, specifically.

Though my expertise in the storm water and erosion control industries is continuing to expand, there are various instances in my life where storm water significantly impacted me. My childhood home has flooded twice, meaning “sump pump” has been a part of my vocabulary since seventh grade. I lived in Sarasota when Hurricane Irma hit, and I was still there last summer when the worst red tide bloom in recent decades hit the Southwest coast of the state.

While these instances certainly don’t make me an expert, I am no stranger to the impact storms and other natural phenomena can have on humans and the environment. I am eager to learn all I can about the industry, specifically how readers like you and your companies aid others with your products and services.

I feel fortunate that one of the first issues I’m editing is this one. As you flip through the pages, you’ll find results from the annual State of the Industry Survey, and as you continue reading, you’ll find articles about each of the 2019 Top Project winners. Compiling these two sections has already greatly informed me of not only where the industry stands, but where it’s headed in 2020.

I look forward to learning from you all. Please reach out to me at [email protected]
