More than 1,000 storm water and environmental services professionals will gather in San Antonio this summer for StormCon 2010, the 9th Annual North American Surface Water Quality Conference & Exposition. The event is set to take place Aug. 1 to 5 at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort in San Antonio.
Preconference Prospects
Before the main event gets underway, interested attendees can jump-start their StormCon experience by partaking in one of several certification or topical workshops.
Two-day certification tracks—spanning Aug. 1 and 2 and incorporating test preparation and administration—will be held for those seeking to attain the following professional titles:
- Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality;
- Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control;
- Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector; and
- Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control.
Application approval and special registration are required. The American Public Works Assn. Certified Stormwater Manager test also will be administered during the event (exam only); testing will take place Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon.
On Aug. 2, industry experts will lead full-day topical workshops focused on storm water treatment, low-impact development (LID) and pollution modeling, for example. Special registration is required, and continuing education units will be offered.
Exhibition & Events
The doors to the exhibit hall will open at 4 p.m. Aug. 2; a three-hour reception will coincide, marking its first day of operation. The hall will welcome attendees again Aug. 3 (9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 to 5:30 p.m.) and Aug. 4 (9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 to 5 p.m.), with sponsored luncheons bridging the afternoon gaps.
Special events highlights for 2010 include the Opening General Session Panel Discussion: “The Future of Storm Water,” which will take place Aug. 3 from 9:45 to 11 a.m., and the Opening Gala Reception, also scheduled for Aug. 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

StormCon 2010 will offer six education program tracks:
1) BMP Case Studies;
2) LID;
3) Storm Water Program Management;
4) Water Quality Monitoring;
5) Advanced Research Topics; and
6) BMPs & Modeling, sponsored by Texas A&M University- Kingsville, the Lower Rio Grande Valley TPDES Stormwater Task Force and the South Texas Environmental Institute.
