Storm Water Solutions joins the Value of Water Coalition in supporting the first annual Imagine a Day Without Water, a national education campaign to drive home to the public and stakeholders how truly essential water is.
From Oct. 6-8, 2015, a multitude of industries and groups—from water and wastewater providers to city councils, aquariums, car washes, schools and libraries—pledge to raise awareness about water by imagining life without it.
Think about turning on a tap and nothing comes out, or having to walk miles for a jug of water every day. These are realities not just in developing nations, but in this country as well; for example, residents of Tulare County in California’s Central Valley have been dealing with extreme water shortages for more than a year due to a combination of drought conditions, heavy agricultural water use and groundwater pumping in the area.
It’s unsettling to think that someday we may all be like the residents of Tulare County, relying on bottled water to drink and rationing non-potable water to bathe, launder clothes and flush toilets, but this future may well await us unless public and private organizations across the country start getting serious about implementing tools for water harvesting and conservation, such as rainwater tanks, smart meters, low-flow toilets and other methods.
