Water Worries

April 23, 2012

According to a recent Gallup poll, the highest levels of environmental worry in 2012 for Americans are: contamination of soil and water by toxic waste; pollution of drinking water; and pollution of rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

These three water concerns have surpassed other environmental issues almost every time they have been featured in the poll since 1989.

The average American’s concern about water highlights the importance of developing more sustainable infrastructure and ensuring that storm water runoff does not contain pollutants. Green building and upgrading to more sustainable solutions is essential to ensuring that our water bodies and soil stay clean and that every citizen has access to safe drinking water.

Our industry straddles the gap between building and upgrading infrastructure and utilities, and the green movement. Therefore, in order to ease the fears of everyday citizens, it is important to stay on top of regulations—as they become more critical with each passing day.
