WEF Selects San Antonio River Authority, LAN and RESPEC as Recipients of the 2020 Project Excellence Award
The Water Environment Federation (WEF) selected the San Antonio River Authority (SARA), civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) and integrated solutions partner RESPEC as the recipients of the 2020 Project Excellence Award. The award will be presented virtually during the WEF Award Celebration ceremony on Oct. 7, according to the press release.
The Project Excellence Award pays tribute to excellence and innovation in the execution of projects and programs in the water sector.
According to the press release, under the sponsorship and direction of SARA, the LAN team developed the following tools and enhancements:
- SARA Water Quality Modeling Standards to ensure consistent development and calibration of water quality models;
- Developed and calibrated water quality models to identify impaired water bodies (locations, timing, and constituents);
- SARA Load Reduction Tool to determine percent load reductions needed to achieve selected screening levels for each of the selected constituents on a sub-basin basis;
- SARA BMP Tool to determine the optimal (minimal cost) combination of the types and numbers of BMPs and LID needed to achieve the required load reductions;
- SARA LP3 Tool to determine the percent BMP implementation needed to achieve compliance using the statistical Log-Pearson Type III (LP3) distribution;
- And BMP Ranking Matrix to help evaluate factors impacting the selection of BMP sites for Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI)

Stantec Awarded Contract in New Orleans District by US Army Corps of Engineers
Stantec has been awarded a $20 million, five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to complete water resource and floodplain projects within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New Orleans District, according to a recent press release.
Stantec will provide a broad array of engineering services to the USACE, including: structural, civil, hydraulic, geotechnical, environmental, surveying, landscape architecture, and project management. Projects under the USACE New Orleans District IDIQ are expected to move forward despite the COVID-19 pandemic, added the press release.
“New Orleans is one of the country’s premier cities, and it’s an honor to partner with the USACE to serve the people of this District,” said Chris Williams, senior vice president for Stantec’s US Federal Program. “The USACE continues to be one of Stantec’s key US Department of Defense clients that we serve worldwide. We’re excited to continue playing a role in helping to improve local communities for years to come.”
Wolf Administration Provides $66M in Funding
Gov. Tom Wolf announced the investment of $66 million for 11 drinking water, wastewater and storm water projects across nine counties through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
“Ensuring that Pennsylvania’s citizens have access to safe and secure infrastructure is a fundamental responsibility of government,” said Wolf in a press release.
The funding for these projects originates from a combination of state funds approved by voters, Growing Greener, Marcellus Legacy funds, federal grants to PENNVEST from the U.S. EPA and recycled loan repayments from previous PENNVEST funding awards, according to the release.
