Kathryn Gruver Joins GS&P's Cincinnati Environmental Services Team
Gresham, Smith and Partners, a multidisciplinary design and consulting firm for the built environment, announced Kathryn Gruver has joined the firm’s Environmental Services market in Cincinnati as an environmental engineer. Gruver has nearly 15 years of experience, including time with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Working with local and state clients including the Ohio Department of Transportation, Gruver will grow the firm’s hydraulic design and water quality design services for storm water management.
“Kathryn’s expertise in roadway drainage, post-construction water quality control design and linear storm water pollution prevention are second to none,” said Mark McCabe, an associate and senior environmental scientist with GS&P. “She helped implement the Ohio EPA’s early storm water compliance efforts and has worked multiple roadway transportation storm water and drainage design projects through that increasingly complicated process. Kathryn is a straight-shooter with vast knowledge and a tremendous work ethic. We’re thrilled to have her on our team.”
“Storm water has been my bread and butter since I first designed culverts for Butler County during college,” said Gruver. “I like to say if it rains on you, that’s my area of expertise. With Clean Water Act permit requirements becoming more stringent and impacting more clients, I enjoy the opportunity to discover and solve new problems. Designing and permitting drainage, storage and treatment systems for highways, rail lines, bridges and other projects ensures there’s no lack of challenges to keep things interesting.”
Before coming to GS&P, Gruver served as lead drainage engineer for the Ohio offices of HDR Engineering, where she managed the roadway drainage design process. Her experience includes hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, storm water management design, culvert analysis, storm sewer layout, pond peak reduction design, construction sediment and erosion control and post construction best management practices. Born and raised in Hamilton, Ohio, she is a founding member of the Cincinnati chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar and is currently helping her church open Butler County’s first shelter for homeless families.
