APWA Kicks Off National Public Works Week
The American Public Works Association (APWA) kicked off National Public Works Week with the “Low and Slow Across America’s Infrastructure Tour” launch at the Washington, D.C., Public Works Fleet Campus, on Tuesday, May 19.
The tour features author Dan McNichol, Ph.D, who will be driving a 1949 Hudson Commodore 8, as a metaphor of the aged condition of infrastructure, from Washington, D.C, to Los Angeles, to assess the condition of infrastructure projects, visit with public works departments, and find some solutions along the way.
"APWA is pleased to sponsor the launch of the ‘Low & Slow Across America’s Infrastructure’ Tour," said APWA Executive Director, Peter B. King. "McNichol’s trip will draw attention to the critical condition of our country’s infrastructure and increase awareness of public works professionals, as well as the infrastructure investments needed to maintain these systems."
APWA sponsors National Public Works Week annually with more than 28,500 members in the U.S. and Canada, who observe the week to energize and educate the public, government leaders, media, companies and other stakeholders about the importance of public works in our daily lives.
