Clarke Prize Conference Speakers Focus on Water Sustainability

The 2014 Clarke Prize Conference will feature talks by water resources experts

The 2014 NWRI Clarke Prize Conference and Award Ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach, California. The event will feature talks by water resources experts from various academic institutions and water management agencies. 

The three main speakers include:

Urs von Gunten, Ph.D.: Deputy Head of the Department for Water Resources and Drinking Water in Eawag, Switzerland

Kala Vairavamoorthy: Director of the Patel College of Global Sustainability at the University of South Florida

Frances Spivy-Weber: Vice Chair of the California State Water Resources Control Board

Other speakers include:

  • Pedro Alvarez, Rice University
  • Menachem Elimelech, Yale University
  • Joe Grindstaff, Inland Empire Utilities Agency
  • Bruce Logan, Pennsylvania State University
  • Nancy Rabalais, Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium
  • Rhodes Trussell, Trussell Technologies Inc.
  • Mark Wiesner, Duke University

The Clarke Prize Award Ceremony, will honor David L. Sedlak, Ph.D.,of the University of California, Berkeley with the NWRI Athalie Richardson Irvine Clarke Prize. Sedlak will also present the annual Clarke Lecture on “Delivering the Fourth Water Revolution.”
