Rolls Royce Facility Installs Floating Outlets and Skimmers

March 7, 2013

Two Thirsty Duck ER-200 series floating outlets and skimmers selected for peak discharge rate control

Thirsty Duck LP installed two of its ER-200 series floating outlets and skimmers at the Rolls Royce Facility located at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. They were installed in separate dry retention facilities to provide constant peak discharge rate control and improved debris/pollutant skimming performance for the stormwater management facilities given the highly sensitive nature of the surrounding coastal ecosystem.

Rolls Royce provides rocket and jet engine testing on the space center facility and is in the process of expanding its onsite operations. As part of the civil site development, Rolls Royce chose to provide additional environmental control measures to ensure the highest level of water quality discharge to the surrounding environmentally sensitive coastal ecosystem. The installed Thirsty Duck ER floating outlets and skimmers provide constant discharge from each of the stormwater management facilities at the permitted allowable rate while providing increased skimming capabilities for oils, greases and other debris. Each of the ER-202H floating outlets and skimmers was installed in a 3-ft, square, precast, concrete structure and was designed for discharge rates of 7.0 cfs and 5.0 cfs based on design stages of 5.5 ft and 2.5 ft of head above the rim respectively. Stormwater modeling and project design was completed by Compton Engineering Inc. with the assistance of engineers from Thirsty Duck LP.
