Floating Outlet and Skimmer Installed At Airport to Reduce Waterfowl Activity

Funded by FAA grant, project converts wet detention pond to dry detention
Nov. 4, 2011

Thirsty Duck LP announced it has completed installation of an ER-200 floating outlet and skimmer in the southwest detention pond at the Bellingham International Airport in Bellingham, Wash.

The product is designed to deliver a constant discharge rate of 19 cu ft per second (cfs). It was installed as part of a project funded by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is to convert the airport’s 6-acre wet detention pond to dry detention. The purpose is to discourage waterfowl from inhabiting the site, which is adjacent to the airport’s main runway.

The installation was completed Nov. 1 in less than one hour with a four-person crew. The project was designed by Reid Middleton Engineers, Planners, Surveyors of Everett, Wash.
