US Army Corps of Engineers Awards Contract for Herbert Hoover Dike Rehabilitation Project
EMCOR Group Inc. announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded its Harry Pepper & Associates Inc. (HPA) subsidiary a contract for $42 million to replace two culverts that control water flow for Lake Okeechobee, located in Martin and Palm Beach counties in Florida, as part of the Herbert Hoover Dike Rehabilitation Project.
HPA will be responsible for the removal of two existing culverts and replacing them with new water control structures, providing flood protection and irrigation to the surrounding community. The approximately three-year-long project will include the demolition of the culverts, placing lengths of cutoff wall to close the gaps in the existing cutoff wall, placement of new cast-in-place concrete culvert structures with gates and control systems at the same locations, and restoring the embankment.
“We’re honored to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in our region,” said David Pepper, president and CEO at HPA. “Our substantial and diverse experience working in the Everglades enables us to bring the unique and required skills to this very important project. We value our role in the preservation and restoration of the ecosystem in this part of Florida.”
