Water Management Seminars Focus on Approaches to Conserve, Harvest, Store Water for Irrigation
In response to water scarcity in many regions of the U.S., Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, in partnership with the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC), has assembled a committee of experts to develop professional courses on holistic approaches to conserve, produce, harvest, store and utilize water sources in order to provide irrigation water for green roofs and walls in arid climates and water restricted areas.
“The responsible management of our water resources is essential to our future,” said Doug York, president of Ewing Irrigation Products, water management solutions supplier and founding sponsor of the project. “Building quality education programs focused on sustainable products and practices is a critical component of a viable resource management strategy.”
The first course in the series, Integrated Water Management for Buildings and Sites, focuses on the costs and benefits, design and engineering practices, and installation and maintenance requirements of integrated water management. The course will be hosted by Green Roofs for Healthy Cities chair Jeffrey Bruce in San Diego on Oct. 29, and is also available online through the Living Architecture Academy.
“We are committed to advancing sustainability, and it is clear that our future ability to retain the many positive benefits of vegetation in cities will hinge directly upon the wise use of our water resources in an increasing number of markets in the years ahead,” said Steven Peck, founder and president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
The new course, focused on case studies, will be unveiled at CitiesAlive 9th Annual Green Roof and Wall Conference in Philadelphia on Nov. 30.
