McCarthy’s Texas Division Awarded Surface Water Facilities Project
Texas-based McCarthy Building Co. Inc. has been awarded a surface water facilities project by the San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA). The project will allow treated surface water from Lake Conroe to be distributed throughout Montgomery County in order to provide fresh surface water supply to the area.
Research by the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District shows groundwater supply in the county is being used at an unsustainable rate with growth of the county over the next several decades intensifying the problem. The $191 million project will consist of constructing a raw water intake and pump station, a water treatment plant, a high service pumping station and storage.
McCarthy will work with SJRA to manage both preconstruction and construction services for the project. The water treatment plant will have an initial treated water capacity of 30 million gal per day with design considerations for expansion in the future and is scheduled for completion by 2015.
The project is financed through a combination of loans from the Texas Water Development Board and proceeds from tax-exempt bond issues. Design of the project is currently in progress and construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2012.
