Lisa Jackson, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and a member of President Barack Obama's Cabinet, is scheduled to provide a keynote address for Water Summit V on Sept. 20. Jackson will share her views on how the EPA, local government, small businesses and the water industry as a whole can work together to spur research and develop water innovations.

Since being named Obama’s cabinet member in charge of environmental protection, Jackson was named Newsweek’s “Most Important People in 2010,” featured on Time Magazine’s 2010 and 2011 lists of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” and more.

As administrator, Jackson has pledged to focus on core issues of protecting air and water quality, preventing exposure to toxic contamination in communities, and reducing greenhouse gases. Jackson is the first African-American to serve as EPA Administrator and has made it a priority to focus on vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and low-income communities that are particularly susceptible to environmental and health threats.

Before becoming administrator, Jackson served as chief of staff to N.J. Governor Jon S. Corzine and commissioner of the state’s Department of Environmental Protection. Prior to joining DEP, she worked for 16 years as an employee of the EPA.

Jackson is a summa cum laude graduate of Tulane University and earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University. She was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana.
