The conference agenda and online registration are now open for the 2011 Living Architecture Regional Symposium in Washington, D.C, April 11 and 12.

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, in partnership with DC Greenworks, the General Services Administration, the Landscape Architecture Foundation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the government of the District of Columbia, will be hosting the upcoming symposium to highlight best practices associated with the design, installation and maintenance of green roofs and walls. The Living Architecture Regional Symposium will focus on how to derive the maximum benefits from these technologies, as well as explore their enormous potential for creating green jobs from a policy standpoint. Expert industry speakers will be combined with a one-day trade show featuring the latest green roof and wall products and services.

“As the nation’s capital, we strive to lead in the widespread adoption of green practices such as green roofs and green walls,” said Hamid Karimi, deputy director of the District Department of the Environment. “As an entirely urban area, the District recognizes that by implementing these practices, we will move towards meeting our water quality goals for our local streams and continue to create a livable, sustainable city.”

The second day of the Regional Symposium will feature training for Green Roof Professional (GRP) accreditation and ongoing professional development. GRP accreditation also provides continuing education credits for AIA, ASLA, APA, LEED and RCI. Leading-edge courses on urban rooftop food production, integrated site and water management will be presented. The new advanced maintenance half-day course also will be launched.

“This is an incredibly important event from a policy and government facility perspective,” said Steven Peck, president and founder of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. “This event is a collaboration between some of the biggest players in North American green infrastructure policy and development. The education courses, speaker sessions and trade show are all important components of this growing industry.”
