Abtech Holdings Inc. announced the appointment of former Congressman Jim Saxton to AbTech Industries' advisory board. Saxton will join distinguished environmental advocate and attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as an advisory board member.

"It is a pleasure and an honor to be associated with the professionals at AbTech Industries,” said Saxton. “Their innovative product, Smart Sponge, provides opportunities to improve the environmental quality of our nation."

"This is a great day for us here at AbTech," said AbTech founder and CEO Glenn R. Rink. "To have the opportunity to work side by side with someone like Jim is truly an honor. His career and his efforts as a fellow environmentalist speak volumes about the man and his mission. We believe his wisdom and guidance will prove exceedingly timely and we are certain that his efforts will have a huge impact on the success of our company."

Saxton was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey for 25 years. He began his career in politics as a member of the New Jersey state general assembly from 1976 to 1981; then as a member of the New Jersey state senate from 1982 to 1984. He was elected to the 98th Congress, and reelected to the twelve succeeding Congresses (1984 to 2009).

During his time in Congress, he was a high-ranking member of the Armed Services Committee and the Resources Committee, and the Ranking Republican Member of the Joint Economic Committee, made up of U.S. Senators and House members. Saxton is a well-known supporter of environmentalism, which led him to be endorsed by the Sierra Club in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006. He also was endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters, Ocean Champions and the New Jersey Environmental Federation during his 2006 reelection bid. The Audubon Society, the National Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy regularly gave him high marks and various awards for his work on conservation issues. He is a member of Republicans for Environmental Protection and co-founded the bi-partisan Congressional Wildlife Refuge Caucus.
