PBS&J Awarded U.S. Green Building Council LEED Award
The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council awarded PBS&J’s Sustainable Building Design Group the 2010 LEEDership Commercial Interior Project of the Year award. The award recognizes the group’s design for PBS&J’s new corporate headquarters in Tampa, Fla. The award was recently accepted on PBS&J's behalf by Vince Briones, PE, LEED AP, CPMP, and Kimberly Walton, EI, LEED AP, at the annual U.S. Green Building Council Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, Smart Sustainable conference.
PBS&J’s Sustainable Building Design Group set out to create a LEED Commercial Interior for PBS&J’s new corporate headquarters, a LEED Gold for Core and Shell building. This meant using a sustainable design to convert 3.5 floors within the building, roughly 90,000 gross sq ft of commercial office space, to meet the requirements for LEED certification. The space houses 350 employees, 146 private offices, open office areas and 10 conference rooms.
“Our in-house design team was determined to create a high-performance, durable, affordable and environmentally sound commercial interior,” said Briones, PBS&J senior group manager. “We feel honored to be recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council with the prestigious Project of the Year award.”
The U.S. Green Building Council Florida Gulf Coast Chapter presented a LEEDership award to the project team in each category for demonstration of a holistic approach toward integrating green building practices and principles into project design, execution and operation, as well as the development of innovative solutions to regional design challenges.
