Profile Products Introduces Landfill Cover Alternative
Profile Products is pleased to introduce a new cost-saving landfill alternative to soil or tarps--BioCover alternative daily cover (ADC).
BioCover is a hydraulically applied product manufactured from Thermally Refined wood fibers combined with cellulose fiber and a viscous hydro-colloid tackifier. Upon application, it provides a uniform layer between landfill waste and the surrounding environment. Less expensive than other covers and easier to apply, BioCover is a superior alternative to soil, mulch or plastic daily covers.
"BioCover is typically used as an ADC spray applied over the open face of a landfill to replace the daily coverage of 6 to 8 in. of topsoil used to hold debris in place overnight," said Wally Butman, vice president of distribution and international sales for Profile Products LLC.
BioCover is better for the environment. It minimizes the accumulated leachate pockets and leachate seeps typically caused by continuous daily soil cover. It is also 100 percent biodegradable and nontoxic. Additionally, BioCover promotes decomposition as the thin layer of BioCover absorbs moisture but allows for air and water infiltration. When compared to using a thick soil cover, BioCover accelerates decomposition.
"We are noting a growing demand for BioCover as an ADC material as more and more landfills must preserve precious space and adhere to environmental regulations," said Butman. "Recently, landfill operations have realized that BioCover ADC application is not only a sound environmental decision, but the right choice economically."
