JFNew, a full-service ecological solutions firm based in northern Indiana and employing 150 people throughout the Great Lakes region, has been recognized as a finalist for the 2008 Top Small Workplaces annual list. The second-annual report recognizes exceptional small-business employers in North America who encourage and reward innovation, teamwork and professional growth while providing a culture and benefits that create employee loyalty.

"We are very pleased to be honored as a finalist at a national level for our corporate culture and focus on positively impacting the lives of our employees," said Will Ditzler, president and chief executive officer of JFNew. "We strive to hire and develop people who are committed to ecological issues and who want to work in a team environment with open communication and opportunities for personal growth. Because of our strong team, we have become one of the leading natural resources and ecological consulting firms in the United States."

The nonprofit Winning Workplaces, Evanston, Ill., and The Wall Street Journal collaborated to select the winners from more than 780 nominations in a search of private, nonprofit and publicly held organizations based in North America with fewer than 500 employees and not more than $200 million in revenue. JFNew was one of 35 finalists selected by a prestigious panel of small-business experts who evaluated the nominees on metrics and qualitative assessments of success in creating workplaces that nurture, challenge and reward employees.
