Georgia Official Wins Award of Merit for Safe Dam Operations

ASDSO presents Lindy Farmer and his organization Southeast region honors

He is the longest tenured head of a major metropolitan water utility in the state of Georgia, having served for 27 years as the general manager of the Henry County Water & Sewerage Authority (HCWSA). Now, Lindy Farmer and the HCWSA are garnering attention outside of the state for excellence in utility operations, notably the safe design, construction and maintenance of reservoir dams.

The Association of State Dams Safety Officials (ASDSO) has announced that Farmer is this year’s recipient of the coveted Southeast Regional Award of Merit, to be presented to him at the annual conference of the ASDSO, to be held Sept. 7 to 11 in Indian Wells, Calif. This industry award places the Authority atop a long list of water utilities within a 13-state region, rating industry performance in reservoir dam safety.

The ASDSO is the primary organization for those industry professionals who deal with the regulation of dams in the United States, said Tom Woosley, P.E., who nominated Farmer for the Award of Merit. Woosley is the program manager within the Permitting and Compliance Unit of Georgia’s Safe Dams Program, a component of the state Department of Natural Resources.

“I nominated Lindy and the Henry County Water & Sewerage Authority because of their forward thinking in designing and building dams for drinking water, and for addressing any need related to dam safety,” Woosley said.
