The Connellsville, Pa., Municipal Authority board has accepted the $2.2-million storm sewer separation project as initially proposed by Widmer Engineering.
"We had our PennVEST meeting in July of last year, and we've been reviewing the project for nearly a year," said Board President Jodi Enany. "I think it's about time to take the advice of our engineers and go ahead with the initial proposal that will address our five major sewer inlets."
The storm water management undertaking will begin in several months. In the meantime, Widmer will request approval from PennVEST and retain a loan. At this time, no plans exist for raising customers' utility fees, according to Enany.
"It's still preliminary, and without the treasurer here, I can't say for sure, but we hope to be able to cover the cost of the project [in the regular budget]," she said.
