Approximately two days of rain have left portions of Missouri in danger of flash floods, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters have described the situation as "extremely dangerous."
Runoff from the severe storms is expected to cause area rivers, particularly the Finley and James Rivers south of Springfield, Mo., to flood, making driving on low-lying roads dangerous.
The weather service has predicted that the James River at Galena will rise to 33 ft in the storm aftermath, just one half-foot below the record flood stage.
