2008 Green Roof Award Winners Announced
A visionary leader in the landscape architecture industry, a dedicated and passionate green roof researcher and an entire government department are among this year's recently announced Green Roofs for Healthy Cities' Awards of Excellence winners.
Nancy C. Somerville, executive vice president and chief executive officer of the American Society of Landscape Architects, received the Civic Leaders Award (non-government). The Civic Leaders Award (government) honored the government of the District of Columbia for 2008. Dr. Bradley Rowe, associate professor for the department of horticulture at Michigan State University, won the Green Roof Research Award.
Nancy Somerville is recognized for her significant role and personal dedication to developing the green roof industry throughout North America.
The government of the District of Columbia is recognized for advancing a number of policies and initiatives to promote green roofs locally. Special recognition has been given to the Office of Property Management, Department of Transportation, Department of Public Works and D.C. Water and Sewer Authority.
Dr. Bradley Rowe is honored for his outstanding contribution to both the establishment and development of cutting-edge green roof research.
Winners of the seven outstanding Awards of Excellence categories for residential and commercial, industrial green roof and green wall projects will be announced during the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities' annual conference, awards and tradeshow program in Baltimore, April 30 to May 2.
"Green Roofs for Healthy Cities has many goals, but critical to our mission is the celebration of excellence in the emerging living architecture industry," said Steven W. Peck, founder and president of the organization. "I couldn't be prouder than to celebrate the achievements of these three extraordinary award winners."
