IECA Announces Environmental Excellence Award Winners

Industry professionals honored for contributions in education, contracting, technology and more

The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) has announced the winners of its 17th annual Awards of Environmental Excellence. The awards recognize excellence in technology, research, education and practices as they pertain to the erosion, sediment control and storm water industries.

The 2008 Environmental Achievement Award goes to J. Warren Faircloth, J.W. Faircloth & Son, Hillsborough, N.C., for the Faircloth Skimmer, which improves sediment basin performance.

Laura Girard, Ayres Associates, Fort Collins, Colo., is the recipient of this year’s Excellence in Technology Award. She is being recognized for her work in developing guidelines for the use of partially grouted riprap to armor the banks of rivers and streams.

The Most Distinguished Technical Paper Award honors C. Joel Sprague, P.E., TRI/Environmental Inc., Greenville, S.C., for “Slope Erosion Testing—Identifying ‘Critical’ Parameters.”

Paul E. Clopper, P.E., Ayres Associates, Fort Collins, Colo., takes home the 2008 Sustained Contributor Award.

Contractor of the Year goes to Alfred T. Nitta, CPESC, Nitta Inc., Loomis, Calif.

The recipient of the Educational Achievement Award is Andrew Johnston, CPESC, Jacobs Carter Burgess, Austin, Texas.

Winners will receive their awards during formal ceremonies at the annual IECA conference, Environmental Connection, in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 19.
