Feb. 2 Marks World Wetlands Day

2008 celebration to highlight relationship between wetlands, human health

Feb. 2 is World Wetlands Day, an annual celebration of the international wetlands vital to ecological and human health. This year's theme, "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People," highlights the relationship between these ecosystems and human health and the critical importance of management strategies which support both issues.

The date marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, an international treaty promoting the conservation and wise use of wetland resources.
