Florida Governments Initiating Storm Water Projects
Nine Florida cities and one county will share approximately $2.6 million for ten storm water projects. The funds have been approved by and will be granted by regional water managers on the St. John's River Water Management District (WMD) Governing Board.
The recipients are Eustis, Flagler Beach, Jacksonville, Leesburg, Palatka, South Daytona, Winter Park, Atlantic Beach, Cape Canaveral and Marion County. Local governments will provide $22.8 million in their projects.
Cape Canaveral's Central Ditch North Phase I project will receive $75,000 from the WMD board. The WMD has invested more than $12.1 million in area municipalities' storm water projects since 1995; 179 such projects have been helped along by WMD funds in that time frame. The district's ultimate goal is to control pollution in the Indian River Lagoon and keep compliant with federal storm water regulations.
