As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ongoing effort to protect Alaska waters, EPA has reached a $6,000 settlement with McGee Industries, Inc. for alleged construction storm water violations.
The violations occurred at the Bailey’s Furniture Outlet construction site, located in Anchorage, Ala. During an EPA inspection of the site in 2005, EPA found numerous violations of EPA’s Construction Storm Water General Permit. The violations include:
- Improper maintenance of erosion and sediment controls at the site;
- Improper selection of control measures for the maintenance area at the site; and
- Various Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan violations.
“Improper management of storm water runoff can have a significant impact on water quality,” said Kim Ogle, manager of EPA’s Permit Compliance Unit in Seattle. “Developers and construction companies need to comply with EPA’s regulations or they may face an enforcement action.”
The NPDES permit program, a key part of the federal Clean Water Act, controls water pollution by regulating sources that discharge pollutants to waters in the U.S.
