Storm Water Contractor Shuts Off Police Phone Cable

A contractor working on a storm water system in Myrtle Beach, S.C. cut a phone cable, affecting the service of about 660 customers, including the police, city hall and city services.

City spokesman Mark Kruea told the Sun News that 911 service was not affected.

The customers were not able to place or receive phone calls, though city employees could use their internal phone network.

The contractor worked for Weaver Construction Company and accidentally hit an HTC high-capacity fiber optic cable while working on the storm water system.

Krue was not able to report whether or not the city would have to pay for the damage.
