Property owners in Colorado Springs will see a new bill in the mail at the start of the new year, the storm water enterprise fee.
The new fee will only cost the average home-owner seven dollars a month, but will cost businesses a lot more.
Business owners say they understand the need for the fee, but it's too high to fit into their budgets all at once. The Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce met with business owners at a special meeting this morning to discus ways to implement the storm water fee.
The fee will cost a small business, such as a convenience store, $140 every three months.
"There was a lot of sticker shock out there in the community about what this may mean, particularly in any unbudgeted expense of any business, so we encouraged them to look at a delayed implementation of this," said Will Temby, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce CEO.
City engineers say the fee is needed to fund storm water improvement projects. City engineers will make a recommendation to city council ton how to phase in the new fee.
