FEMA Grants $20,000 to Floodplain Mapping Program
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted $20,000 to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Stormwater Services floodplain mapping program.
These funds will improve Mecklenburg County, N.C., flood maps by revising current maps, insuring ones that will be more up-to-date. Modernized maps will more closely track actual risk and assist new development and rebuilding efforts.
“These funds will support state partners in creating flood maps that more accurately reflect recent development and natural changes in the environment," said acting FEMA Region IV director Mary Lynne Miller. "The new maps will make communities safer and protect property from the risk of flood loss for years to come."
With this grant, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Stormwater Services floodplain mapping program will revise Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs) for Mecklenburg County.
