It is almost time to go to the happiest place on Earth, and it is not Disney World.

It is StormCon 2025.

While this year’s show might be taking place in Orlando, attendees will not need to step foot into the Magic Kingdom to feel joy. This year’s StormCon has a slew of educational and networking opportunities that will help attendees make new connections and find solutions to their stormwater challenges.

Conference sessions will begin Wednesday, August 27, with the opening keynote and run until Thursday, August 28, at 2:30 p.m. There will also be networking receptions on both Tuesday, August 26, and Wednesday, August 27. Outside of sessions and receptions, here are other conference highlights.

Monday, August 25

CISEC & CDSEC Certification Courses

Before the official conference kicks off on Wednesday, attendees can register and participate in the two-day Certified Designer of Sediment and Erosion Certification (CDSEC) program or the two-day Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control Certification (CISEC) course. These courses are offered by Ecopliant and will take place on both Monday, August 25 and Tuesday, August 26. Pre-registration with Ecopliant.org by August 18 is required.

Tuesday, August 26

Field Trips: Dubsdread Golf Course & Kennedy Space Center

These field trips will give attendees the chance to either tour a project at Dubsdread Golf which introduced a series of interconnected ponds to treat runoff from I-4 and nearby neighborhoods, enhancing water quality and rehydrating local wetlands; or visit the Kennedy Space center with a 3-hour private guided tour. Separate registration is required for both.

NMSA Public Meeting

From 1 to 2:30 p.m., attendees are invited to join the National Municipal Stormwater Alliance for its annual meeting. NMSA staff and leadership will provide an overview on activities led by NMSA in the past year along with anticipated activities and goals for the coming year. There will be an opportunity for a Q&A session as well.

Wednesday, August 27

Opening Keynote

Sarah Matin, Region 5 director for the American Society of Civil Engineers, will kick off StormCon 2025 on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. as the keynote speaker. Matin will present on ASCE’s 2025 Report Card on America’s Infrastructure, which was released in March. The report card gave the stormwater sector a “D,” which is the same grade it received in 2021. In the opening keynote session, learn how we, as a sector and country, can better manage our stormwater, what it will take to update aging infrastructure and how we can be more resilient.

Panel Discussion: Storm Preparedness and Resiliency Throughout Florida

The United States is seeing an increase in both storm intensity and frequency, and Florida is no stranger to this. Last year, hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton, one of the strongest hurricanes on record in the Atlantic basin, swept through the state and brought storm surge, inland flooding, strong winds and other weather-related impacts with them. In this panel session, stormwater professionals from around the state will share how their municipalities manage stormwater, prepare for natural disasters and build resilience.

Thursday, August 28

Field Trip: A-First Project Tour

Following the closing of conference sessions, the A-First Project Tour will offer a firsthand look at the system's key components, including the Altamonte Global Innovation Lab, Cranes Roost Pump Station, Reclaimed Augmentation Facility, and the Water Reclamation Facility. Attendees will follow the journey of stormwater as it's collected, treated, and reused, gaining insights into the project's design, implementation, and environmental benefits. Separate registration is required.

National Stormwater Leadership Coalition Deep Dive and Listening Session

Join representatives of the National Stormwater Leadership Coalition (NLSC), who will share in-depth information on the background, vision and planned activities of this group. In addition, the NSLC will take input from meeting attendees and answer questions.
