Northern California county issues mandatory evacuation orders

A storm triggered flash flooding in areas affected by the Camp Fire in Northern California. According to officials, the storm caused trees to fall and stranded motorists caught in the high waters, reported NPR.

According to Rick Carhart, Cal Fire spokesman, the department quickly activated water rescue teams to save people caught in the flooded roads.

“We have responded to reports of a number of stranded vehicles in the roadways,” Carhart said to NPR.

Water rescues took place in Chico, according to the Associated Press. Many evacuees from Paradise had been staying there since the fire three weeks ago. Law enforcement officials in Chico warned of downed power lines and urged people to not drive over them and report it to 911.

According to NPR, mandatory evacuation orders have been issued across Butte County. Officials say there also is a possibility of mudslides, especially in areas charred by the fire.

Lots of flooded roadways and trees, power lines down due to the weather. Chico Police, Chico Fire Department and PG&E are working hard to keep everyone safe!
Remember if you see power lines down call 911 and don't drive over them!
