Volusia County invests $80 million in flood mitigation and stormwater resilience projects
The Volusia County Council has approved nearly $50 million in federal Transform386 funding to support 14 major flood mitigation and stormwater infrastructure projects, with local applicants contributing an additional $30 million. The combined $80 million investment will expand stormwater capacity, improve drainage and reduce flood risk across the county.
Projects include stormwater conveyance and storage upgrades in DeBary, DeLand, Deltona, Port Orange, South Daytona and Ponce Inlet, as well as countywide retention and pump station improvements. Nonprofit partners will also receive funding for roof replacements and stormwater upgrades at community housing facilities.
These projects represent the latest phase of Volusia County’s resilience strategy, which has allocated more than $110 million in federal recovery funding over the past year. County officials say the effort strengthens long-term protection for neighborhoods, businesses and critical infrastructure vulnerable to severe storms and flooding.
