Post-Tropical Storm Isaias Moves Into Canada
Now post-tropical cyclone Isaias has moved into southeastern Canada.
The storm is bringing heavy rain and powerful winds over the province of Quebec, reported CNN.
The storm's maximum sustained winds are now approximately 40 mph and expected to weaken, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is likely to dissipate Wednesday night or Thursday. A wind advisory was in effect for all of eastern and Northern Maine until early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
"We are seeing numerous reports of Gusty Winds 35-45mph within Showers & behind the precipitation. We could see gusts as high as 50mph. This may cause downed trees on power lines," said the service on Twitter.
The tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) to the northeast and east of the center primarily over and near the St. Lawrence River, added the NHC.
At least two people were killed when a tornado struck a mobile home park in Windsor, North Carolina, reported Bertie County officials. Twelve people were injured and taken to hospitals as well.
St. Mary's County, Maryland saw the driver of a car die after a tree fell on the vehicle's roof. The weather service has reported at least three separate tornadoes occurred in the southern part of the state early Tuesday. Nearly three million people were in the dark early Wednesday morning, according to poweroutage.us, including more than 800,000 people in the state of New York.
Even though the rainfall has ended, scattered minor to moderate and isolated major river flooding is ongoing across portions of the Mid-Atlantic with most rivers expected to fall below flood stage, added the NHC in its advisory.
