San Diego Reaches Storm Water Improvement Agreement

The city of San Diego has reached an agreement with two local nonprofits, San Diego Coastkeeper and the Coastal Environmental Rights Foundation (CERF), to improve storm water infrastructure and watershed quality. The new agreement includes plans to improve storm water management sites.

According to The Times of San Diego, the city pledged to improve storm water management sites at the Miramar Landfill, Metro Biosolids Center, North City Reclamation Plant, Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant and South Bay Water Reclamation Plant. The city will fund water quality improvements and habitat conservation in Mission Bay.

“We have a longstanding working relationship with the city’s storm water and public utilities departments, so we were confident they would take our concerns seriously and allow us to achieve environmental benefits without having to engage in expensive litigations,” said CERF Executive Director Marco Gonzalez.

According to the nonprofits, city officials expect to finish the storm water upgrades by the end of 2023.
