Alexandria Renew Enterprises formally presented a regulation-sized multi-purpose field to the city Of Alexandria, Va., in a dedication ceremony that brought together community members, water industry leaders, business leaders, elected officials, employees and even Miss Virginia to the urban water renewal facility. The field represents Alexandria Renew Enterprises’ partnership with the Alexandria community.

The new field will help further develop the Eisenhower East community, now called the Carlyle area of Alexandria, providing a gathering place for residents. It will be lit, and has artificial turf and a sloped grass area for seating, which will make it conducive to local city sports teams and activities.

“We are delighted to present this new field to the city of Alexandria’s Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs Department,” said Karen Pallansch, CEO of Alexandria Renew Enterprises. “This field is the direct result of a cohesive public private partnership between Alexandria Renew, Carlyle Plaza LLC and the city of Alexandria. I also want to emphasize that the cost of constructing the field was not borne by our customers.”

Sitting below the multi-purpose field is an 18-million-gal nutrient management facility that will help Alexandria Renew meet the enhanced requirements from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regarding the amount of nitrogen in the clean water the utility sends back to the Chesapeake Bay.

Elected officials were on hand for the ceremony, including Congressman Don Beyer and Mayor Bill Euille. Boy Scout Troop 135 presented the colors and current Miss Virginia Savannah Lane sang the National Anthem in front of a crowd of approximately 250 people. After remarks, Beyer, Euille, Pallansch, and children from across the community kicked the first soccer balls on the field.
