Port Orange secures funding for Portona neighborhood drainage improvements

Port Orange, Fla., will receive $2.465 million through Volusia County's Transform386 program to build two retention ponds and upgrade piping in the flood-prone Portona neighborhood.

The city of Port Orange, Fla., will receive $2.465 million through Volusia County's Transform386 program to develop two stormwater retention ponds and upgrade piping in the Portona neighborhood, according to the city.

The Portona Area Drainage Improvements project addresses outdated infrastructure and limited stormwater storage in the neighborhood, the city said. Total estimated project cost is $4.93 million, with the city securing additional funding sources for the remainder.

The investment is part of a broader $21 million Transform386 allocation to Port Orange covering four stormwater projects citywide. Transform386 distributes federal recovery funds to support infrastructure and mitigation projects across Volusia County.

"These projects represent the city's ongoing commitment to improving stormwater infrastructure and protecting our neighborhoods most vulnerable to flooding," Mayor Scott Stiltner said. "We are extremely grateful to Volusia County and the Transform386 program for their support in helping us move these critical projects forward."
