NPCA opens entries for inaugural Built for Purpose Awards
The National Precast Concrete Association has opened submissions for its first-ever “Built for Purpose Awards,” a new program recognizing infrastructure projects that demonstrate the long-term value of precast concrete in strengthening communities, improving resilience and supporting environmental stewardship.
The awards program, timed to align with the upcoming America250 celebrations, is open to both NPCA members and non-members. Eligible entries include infrastructure projects currently under construction or completed within the past five years. Submission forms open June 1, with entries due Aug. 31.
According to NPCA, projects will be evaluated on factors including flood and erosion reduction, environmental protection, infrastructure durability, public safety improvements and community resilience. Stormwater and water infrastructure projects that use precast concrete as a key component of drainage, retention, conveyance or flood mitigation systems are expected to align closely with the award criteria.
“Precast has been hiding in plain sight — quietly contributing to the resilience and performance of U.S. infrastructure without taking credit,” said CEO and President of NPCA Nick Rhoad in the announcement.
Winning projects will be selected by a jury that includes professionals from engineering, manufacturing and construction sectors. Awards will be presented in gold, silver and bronze categories, along with honorable mentions.
NPCA said submissions should highlight how precast concrete contributed meaningful long-term value through faster installation, reduced maintenance, improved environmental outcomes or solutions to complex infrastructure challenges. Winners will be announced during The Precast Show, scheduled for Feb. 3-5, 2027, in Salt Lake City.
