Chicago Area Floods Due to Heavy Rainfall

The Chicago area experienced heavy rainfall Oct. 14, causing the city and surrounding suburbs to experience flash floods. A flash flood warning affected Chicago as well as Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Boone, DeKalb, La Salle, Ogle and Winnebago counties.

In Chicago, the Chicago River flooded, prompting the riverwalk, riverwalk restaurants and cruise lines to close. The Lake Forest Fire Department reportedly rescued at least 12 cars from high waters.

WGN 9 Weather reported 8.11-in. of rain in Downers Grove and 8.09-in. in Somonauk. O’Hare International Airport experienced 4.19-in. of rainfall, making it the wettest October day in Chicago history.
