EPA Updates General Permit for Industrial Storm Water Discharges

June 16, 2015
The permit will help protect the nation's waterways from industrial sector pollutants

On June 4, 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized its updated Multi-Sector General Permit to regulate storm water discharges from industrial facilities.

The permit will help protect the nation's waterways from industrial sector pollutants, which can degrade aquatic ecosystems, increase drinking water treatment costs and impair the recreational use and aesthetic value of waterways. The permit's provisions are largely similar to the expired MSGP issued in 2008. However, EPA made some changes to streamline the permit, enhance environmental protections and improve clarity.
