Port Neches, Texas, Plans Rock Breakwater Post-Harvey

Port Neches, Texas, began plans to build a rock breakwater to protect against erosion. The breakwater will span 700 ft from the Port Neches Riverfront Park to the Oak Bluff Cemetery and the cost is estimated to be $750,000 to $850,000, according to Port Arthur News.

 The Port Neches Public Works Office reported approximately a foot of erosion annually with 6 to 8 ft of erosion after Hurricane Harvey, rendering erosion control measures necessary to protect developed land. Funding for the erosion control project will come from a Coastal Management Program grant. The project is anticipated to take 90 days to complete once the necessary permits are acquired from the Texas General Land Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
