Before -and-after shots of a hydroseeded area at a home site in St. ThomasThe University of the Virgin Islands reports two successful hydroseeding sites on St. Thomas. One very steep slope in the back of a homeowner’s yard was stabilized with Bermuda grass after he had learned about hydroseeding through the “Practical Approaches to erosion Control” workshop held at UVI. “I am very pleased with the results and am working on maintaining a beautiful, healthy lawn,” declares Cornell Caseman-Williams. The Montessori School PTA sent three participants to the Hydroseeding Certification Training Workshop to learn how to quickly seed a long-awaited soccer field. Seeding was done at the beginning of the rainy season, and with a little encouragement, the seed germinated and filled in the field. “As a result, the Montessori School can now boast an excellent field for its soccer competitions and other games,” says Natural Resource Specialist Julie Wright with the UVI—Cooperative Extension Service.
