University Partners Program Connects Students With Professionals

Jan. 1, 2011

IECA is proud to announce its University Partners initiative. This initiative creates an informal relationship with universities and colleges offering courses in the fields of erosion control, sediment control, and stormwater management. The overall objective of the program is to introduce students to IECA and to provide a means for them to interact in an educational environment with the industry professionals who make up IECA’s membership.

IECA’s director of education, Jimmy Eanes, CPESC, CESSWI, had this to say of the new endeavor: “We believe that our partnership with universities and colleges that offer courses related to our industry will introduce future generations of erosion control specialists to our association and those who have ‘blazed the trail’ before them.”

IECA’s goal for 2010 is to recruit 10 partners into the program. To accomplish this goal, IECA is approaching members who work in the college and university environment and have expressed an interest in the program. By participating as a University Partner, schools are able to provide numerous opportunities to their students. Currently, IECA is working with its partners to arrange for students to attend IECA’s annual conference and expo in order to serve as moderators for conference education. Additionally, IECA is encouraging students to submit research for publication or presentation at IECA events.

At present, IECA is partnering with the following institutions of higher education:

  • North Carolina State University
  • Auburn University
  • Colorado State University
  • Shasta College
  • Texas A&M University
  • California Polytechnic Institute
  • University of Tennessee
