319 Success Story: McKnight Branch, TN

April 29, 2014

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has removed McKnight Branch from the state’s CWA section 303(d) list of impaired waters. Pasture grazing near the branch contributed to damaged riparian areas, increased stream siltation, and habitat alteration. After being added to the state’s Clean Water Act section 303(d) list of impaired waters in 2000, project partners implemented agricultural best management practices. These projects resulted in improved water quality and a reduction in siltation.
